Transformations: Two (and a half!) Bathrooms in D.C.'s Trendy Logan Circle

About this Project

Jeff and Tamra’s Logan Circle townhome was the perfect place for them to start a family. Three bedrooms and two bathrooms made it easy for them to have privacy, host, and grow, but there were two problems: those bathrooms were absolutely hideous, and they needed to sell their home for a bigger one.

  • Project: 2.5 bathroom renovation

  • Budget: $16,000

  • Timeline: 5 weeks

  • Concierge: Yes

What You Should Know

Jeff and Tamra are your classic D.C. power couple. Jeff is the CTO of a startup and Tamra is a lawyer. A match made in heaven, right? They read about remodelmate in DC Inno and Jeff loved the idea of supporting his city’s tech scene.

Both he and Tamra had gotten home remodeling contractor referrals from their realtor, whom they trusted, but no one they suggested was available to start working within their desired timeline.

For Jeff and Tamra, remodelmate meant availability and simplicity; and, unbeknownst to them, they were the first customers to get a remodelmate Concierge. At the time, it was a new offering that gave them greater peace of mind and significantly fewer headaches in the coordination of their renovation.

They ordered materials with the help of their Concierge, and the work began the second their remodelmate installer stepped foot into their home. Like most full renovations, the master and guest bathrooms were completely gutted before installation began. Their old flooring was replaced with concrete gray ceramic floor tile; the outdated wall tile was replaced with white subway wall tile, and an espresso vanity and mirror was added along with vanity faucets and a ceiling light relocation.

No renovation is perfect though. After the shower pan in the master bathroom was installed with penny tile and grey grout, Tamra was unhappy with how it turned out. Since the renovation was ahead of schedule, her installer changed the grout free of charge.

What they knew was that from start to finish, a single bathroom renovation typically takes three weeks. Their installer got both bathrooms done in that time, so the couple decided to tack on an additional half-bath renovation, which was completed in two weeks.

A few months after the renovation, Jeff and Tamra sold their home for $15,000 above the asking price.

“They were incredibly easy to work with and responsive to all of our questions and concerns. The project came in on budget, and we got a lot of compliments on the fresh, new look of our bathrooms. We were extremely pleased with the finished result and our experience working with remodelmate!” - Jeff and Tamra
